Spring Break!

How was Spring Break? What did you do? Where did you go? Who were you with? Make sure to reread what you write before posting! Only 24 days left of fifth grade!

It's AS slimy AS a worm in the rain... SIMILES!!

A simile is a phrase or stanza that compares two things using the words "like" or "as". Write a simile you have heard, or make one up. Use similes to make your writing more exciting!

"My best friend is AS sharp AS a pencil."

"My dog is AS smelly AS dirty socks."

"Crazy LIKE a fox."

Idioms!!

An idiom is a phrase that doesn't have a "literal" meaning. Write an idiom, and explain it's meaning. Read what has been written, and try to choose an idiom that others haven't added yet! :)Start looking for idioms in the books you are reading! Try using them more often in your own writing! :)

What would you try... if you knew you could not fail?

Sometimes in life we don't try things that we might want to in fear that we won't be successful. Imagine not worrying about failing... What might you try then?

The Daily 5

Spelling Bee Finalists!!!

We held our first spelling bee reviewing all spelling words thus far! These kids are doing awesome with looking for the phonics patterns in their words. High frequency words are also added each week. These "high frequency" words can be tricky, as many of them DO NOT follow the rules of phonics. We are proud of our fifth graders for working so hard! These pictures are of the students still standing when each class ended. Good job Guys!

Red Ribbon Week!!!

Last week was Red Ribbon Week! Each day students were able to dress up to celebrate being drug free! Part of the festivities included a door decorating contest. Class officers were in charge, and did an AWESOME job decorating them!!! Thanks for the fun week PTA! Ashley fifth graders know the importance of being DRUG FREE!!!!! :)
